Location Characteristics: Though Arlington, Virginia is the smallest county in the United States it is packed with variety and culture. It conveniently sits at the gateway to Washington, D.C. separated only by the Potomac River. Arlington is home to Arlington National Cemetery and the Iwo Jima Memorial making it easy to picture how until 1846 Arlington was actually part of Washington, D.C. Within Arlington County are many areas known as "urban villages" like Shirlington and Lyon Village. Many are built up around two Washington Metro Rail Stations such as Courthouse, Clarendon, Virginia Square, and Ballston located on the Orange line. The Blue line meets the Orange at Rosslyn but travels south carrying passengers to Pentagon City, Crystal City and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Getting around Arlington is easy by car, bus or subway. Arlington has its own transit bus system (ART) as well as access to the regional Metro Bus which delivers you to any of the numerous Metro Rail Stations. If you choose to live out in the many suburban neighborhoods rest assured that commuting is made easier due to a wide choice of major road arteries such as North/South Interstate 395, East West Route 50 and Route 66.

Arlington has always been a coveted location to live due to its proximity to Washington, D.C. and because it is home to the Pentagon, U.S. Department of Defense as well as a multitude of private sector government contractors. It is also one of the top ten places in the country, second to New York City, to spend 50% of its revenues on education. Many schools like Yorktown High, Washington-Lee High and H-B Woodlawn High have been noted as the countries top 100 schools in Newsweek. Arlington also has its own Northern Virginia Community College as well as institutes of higher learning such as Marymount University, Strayer University and Devry University. Well known Actors such as Warren Beatty and Sandra Bullock as well as Senator Paul Wellstone, Media Personality Katie Couric and Gold Medalist Tom Dolan benefited from growing up in this unique area where education and opportunity build a pathway to success.

The best part of living in Arlington is that you can still find quiet community living while having easy commuting access to the variety and excitement of the nation's capitol. Arlington has a wide variety of single family homes, duplexes, townhouse and condominium living. You can find quiet single family home neighborhoods in both north and south Arlington to this day. If you want more dynamic city living then maybe Pentagon City, Crystal City, Rosslyn or Clarendon are more your style. Here you will find international flavor among modern shopping complexes such as Pentagon Row, the Fashion Center of Pentagon City, Crystal City Shops, Ballston Common Mall, the Market Common of Clarendon or The Village at Shirlington. Each location is filled with your choice of exquisite boutiques and fine dining.
